Poetry MFA Lindsey Weishar will lead a workshop for writers of all genres on the cultivation of joy in writing. Drawing from designer Ingrid Fetell Lee’s TED talk, “Where Joy Hides and Where to Find It” as a launching point, we will explore the biological necessity for joy, as well as the spiritual resonance joy can inhabit in our daily lives. Participants are asked to bring three items to the workshop which personally evoke joy for the participant: a piece of writing from another author (a paragraph from fiction / nonfiction / essay or a stanza or two from a poem), a photograph / picture, and a physical object. Participants will be asked to share about why these things bring joy in a series of small-group writing exercises. Participants will then be asked to share some of their work at the end of the workshop.
Open to writers of all genres.
