ABOUT ROBERT STEWART
Robert Stewart, a founding member and past president of The Writers Place, helped establish the organization’s overall mission and sponsored many of its programs. He continues to serve as an Emeritus Board member and volunteer.
Stewart has donated much of his life to the literary world. He has been a part of New Letters starting as a volunteer and later becoming its Editor in Chief. During his time as editor, he received the prestigious National Magazine Award for editorial achievement from the American Society of Magazine Editors. He has published both prose and poetry in many journals, and his books include Plumbers, Working Class and The Narrow Gate: Writing Art & Values. His collection of essays, Outside Language, received the Thorpe Menn Literary Excellence Award presented by the American Association of University Women. Stewart also taught professional and creative writing classes at UMKC and, in 1983, founded the Midwest Poets Series at Rockhurst University.
