Tommy O’Haver & Mitch Brian

Tommy O’Haver’s credits as a writer and director include Ella Enchanted, Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss and America’s Most Hated Woman. His film An American Crime was nominated for a Golden Globe and a WGA award. Recently, his Audible Original series Lady Killer was nominated for Best Scriptwriting at the Ambie Awards. As a visiting artist and adjunct professor for film and television schools at Loyola Marymount and DePaul, he has guided hundreds of writing and directing students, many going on to careers in the industry.
Mitch Brian co-created and wrote episodes for Batman: the Animated Series and co-wrote the NBC mini-series The ‘70s. He has written screenplays for producers Chris Columbus, Geena Davis, and Oliver Stone. He and co-writer Kevin Willmott (Blackkklansman) currently have scripts in development with directors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Alex Gibney. He wrote and directed the award-winning short films Hang Ups and James Ellroy’s Stay Clean. He is also a published playwright and a retired professor of film.

The course (one meeting): Create memorable scenes * vivid characterizations for film and TV * learn what a director looks for when putting the script in front of the camera * build rich characters *communicate a clear story that can be served by the director * create an effective pitch.
Bring only a basic understanding of the three-act structure and, useful, some sense of screenplay format.
